About Us
Tamela Chambers is a bad ass librarian who loves the kids. As CVCA's Library media and technology specialist, head Girls Track and Field Coach and Service Learning Coach, she is the heart that makes CVCA run! She is a lover of the arts and helping students find their creativity and voice. Tamela is a graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and has been with CVCA for six years.
Dina Morelli is a dedicated artist and educator who has worked within CPS for over twenty years. As the art teacher at CVCA she leads students through a multimedia learning environment including drawing, painting, sculpture, movement and collage.
Curtis Irby A true artist and craftsman. As the head of the Carpentry department he has literally and symbolically been building the school and community along with his students for the last five years. Curtis is not only a master woodworker but photographer and drawer.
Charity is a former art teacher at CVCA and just couldn't seem to stay away for too long. She is a figurative ceramicist, artist educator and community activist, who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and the University of Florida. Charity is an artist in residence at the Lillstreet Art Center and an adjunct professor at Governor State University and Carthage College. charitysharonwhite.com
Chicago Vocational Career Academy is located in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. Initially funded by the Works Progress Administration, later functioning underling the control of the United States Navy during WWII, and currently spearheading Chicago's STEM and technological education, CVCA's rich history of vocational education is intertwined in the the city and country's development.
